This grant was established in 1972 in honor of a woman who accomplished many firsts. Dr. B. Olive Cole graduated from Baltimore Business College, the University of Maryland School of Pharmacy, and was the first woman to graduate from the University of Maryland School of Law. It is believed she was the first woman to hold a full professorship at a school of pharmacy in the US; in addition, she was the first woman to act as an acting dean of a pharmacy school. The opening reception of the 2004 LKS Convention was held at the B. Olive Cole Museum in Baltimore. What a pioneer Dr. Cole was and what an example she set for us as female pharmacists! Since the trust’s inception, 20 B. Olive Cole grants have been awarded.
